The Dates of the Escales of The Ocean Race 2022-23 announced

The dates of the eight stops, to which is added a fly-by in Kiel, in Germany, were confirmed for the 14th edition of The Ocean Race.

The Ocean Race 2022-23 will therefore go to nine emblematic international cities over a period of six months of race.The first step will start from Alicante, Spain, January 15, 2023.

Given at the beginning of the year, the departure of the 14th edition of The Ocean Race will follow the holiday season in Spain, and will see the two fleets engaged in the race (the Imoca à foils and the VO65 monotypes) leave for a tour of the world32,000 nautical miles (60,000 km) in two separate divisions from each other.

"The revision of the course and the calendar of The Ocean Race 2022-23 offers us six months of intense racing around the world and will challenge the best sailors and teams like only The Ocean Race can do so," said Phil Lawrence, theRacing director.

The first step will be a sprint of 1,900 nautical miles between Alicante and Cap Vert.This is the very first time that the race will stop on the African archipelago.Historically, the boats passed not far from the islands during their descents from the Atlantic, direction the south.During the stopover of Cape Verde, The Ocean Race will participate in the famous Ocean week, and will highlight the questions of sustainable development at local and international level.

The second stage will start on January 25 and will see the two fleets crossing the latitude of the equator, to descend south, to CAP (South Africa).It will be the 12th time that the race has stopped at the southern end of Africa, which makes it the most visited city in the history of the race. In the purest tradition of The Ocean Race, this stage will take the Imoca and the VO65 in the roaring quaranths and the howling fiftieths, in the hearts of the southern southern.With Antarctica on starboard, the fleet will have to cross consecutively and for the first time, the longitudes the three caps of the great south - the Cape of good hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn - without stopping.

Will follow a new extended stop in Itajaí, Brazil after this southern epic.Then, the race will set the course to the north, with a new passage from the black pot, direction Newport, Rhode Island, on the east coast of the United States.

From there, the race will return to Europe, with a transatlantic stage to Aarhus, Denmark, followed by a fly-by (passage) in Kiel, Germany, before stopping in The Hague, in the Netherlands.

Then come the time of the last stage - Grand Final - to Genoa, Italy, for an arrival in the Mediterranean.

In-Port Races will be organized the starting veils of the stage in Alicante, Cape Town, Itajaí, Newport, Aarhus, Hague and Genoa.The in-port breeds will be the subject of a separate classification for each fleet, with a result which can be decisive to the general, since it will be able to decide between the teams equal.

A prologue for the two Imoca and VO65 fleets will be held in the second half of 2022.Details will soon be announced.The two fleets will then go to Alicante during the holiday season at 2022, before the start of the first stage on January 15, 2023.
