Compulsory participation of female civil servants in the "carnival"

March 08, International Women's Day has been declared a non-working and paid day for working women in Madagascar for several years. In general, employers do not dictate to women what they should do on that day, especially for the private sector. But this time the HVMa regime decreed that women civil servants are obliged to participate in the "Carnival" which will take place at the Mahamasina stadium on March 8th. They are also obliged to put on outfits dictated by each ministry. March 8 is in principle a day to take stock of women's rights, an opportunity to claim equality and to take stock of the situation of women in society. .

The contents of the press release (attached file) can be summarized as follows: “All women who work at the Ministry of Justice are invited to participate in the Carnival which will take place on March 8th. It should be noted that attendance at the Carnival is compulsory…”. The term "compulsory" does not necessarily suit the spirit of the celebration of International Women's Day.

The International Day for Women's Rights is one of the 87 international days recognized or initiated by the UN since 1977. The United Nations, by making the day official, invites all countries on the planet to celebrate a day for women.
