Toulouse - Haute -Garonne - Toulouse - An exemplary rehabilitation for a Haussmann building

The very location of the building, in the city center, in a narrow shopping street, with the presence of the metro line 8.5m deep, accentuated the difficulties of the site. But the work carried out in total consultation both with the local residents and the services concerned allowed the realization of an exemplary site.

Evacuation of 3,000 tonnes of rubble by a gate 3.5m wide and 4m high, installation of a crane of 35m in the heart of the hollowed out building, use of 130 tonnes of steel for the structuremetallic and 550 m3 of concrete...data that makes you dizzy and explain the extent of the work.

Today, the 3 street of the weight of the oil is a perfect alliance between the old and the new.The Haussmannian facade has been cleaned and repainted, thus finding all its cachet.Once entered, we discover a modern space with ceiling volume and height, a space bathed by a light well thanks to a glass and slender profile of Gustave Eiffel type, designed to measure. The building as a whole has 6 levels for a total surface of 2,670 m2 GLA (useful commercial surface).

An ancient treasure to discover

The building, located inside the known perimeter of Roman Tolosa, has been the subject of an archaeological diagnosis.By discovering in one of the cellars what looked like a section of the ancient rampart of the city, the Drac Occitanie decided to prescribe an archaeological excavation before the start of the work.Result: studies and archaeological valuations have updated a second rectilinear section of the rampart associated with a part of the circular tower, proof of occupation in the 1st century AD.

This piece of rampart seems to be an extension of the vestiges discovered in 2011 in the Capitol garden, current Square Charles de Gaulle.Note that this is not a defensive rampart since its construction took place in the middle of Pax Romana. It would rather be a rampart intended to delimit Tolosa and to highlight the magnificence of the city.

Anxious to preserve the history of the building of 3 rue du Weight of the Oil, GTO has chosen to keep and highlight this exceptional element of the Roman rampart. This is how all visitors can discover it on March 21 in the basement of the building.

For Martine and Thierry Oldak, ""we are attached to Toulouse and its history. With this rehabilitation, we wanted to preserve the authenticity of this place and keep its identity. The 3 rue du Weight of the Oil has always welcomed the public: whether they are the 1st drivers with the Automobile Club du Midi, the social insured with the House of Social Insurance or even the general public with the jewelry storeThe Dungeon and FRAM.Today, a new trade story will be written with Uniqlo. There is no doubt that this brand will bring a new dynamic to the street.""
